What is neurosurgery?

Though most people think of neurosurgery as brain surgery, in actuality, neurosurgeons spend nearly 70 percent of their time helping patients with spine and peripheral nerve problems, providing surgical and non-surgical care. Neurosurgery is a branch of medicine that diagnoses and treats disorders of the entire nervous system, including the brain, the spine, the peripheral nerves and the arteries of the neck. Brain surgery is included.

How do I know if I need to see a neurosurgeon?

Neurosurgeons commonly see patients for low back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, pinched nerves in the neck, sciata, epilepsy, sports injuries, Parkinson's disease, stroke, chronic pain and a number of other nervous system disorders.
